Trends For Beauty and Cosmetics

Our favorite!
But of course, we’re not talking Lancome, M.A.C, or Dior here….and with good reason!
Not only are these giants highly overpriced and underperforming…but there’s also many questions and muddy waters on who exactly still tests on animals.
That’s why it’s better for your wallet, your skin, and your conscience to check out these amazing little-known brands.

The King of Cosmetics and fresh bath and beauty products is without a doubt, Lush.
Not only are their products 100% natural, organic, vegetarian, and packed with amazing flowers, oils and herbs…but they’ve been fighting animal testing for thirty years, and have an Ethical Buying Team to find fair trade and sustainable sources for their ingredients.

That means their Vanilla Absolute from Uganda helps Mubuku farmers get the best prices and profits for their products….Their cocoa beans come from Colombia and supports a group quietly resisting political violence in the region……Their argan oil comes from Morocco, has stimulated the local economy and given local women a sustainable job.

Lush is committed to fresh handmade products, sustainable business practices, low-or-no packaging, and giving back to the communities they work with.

Anyway, back to the products!
There is so much to choose from, you have to see it all yourself…body butters, oil-free hand lotions, aluminum-free deodorants, soaps that smell so tasty that its hard not to eat them….spend a day just browsing and reading all the awesome goodies they have!
They also have a range of products exclusively for men, like the ‘Guv’ner’ deoderant, and the best shaving cream you can buy, ‘Razorantium’

For cosmetics, they have a fairly new line of color for lips, eyes, and skin.

Some of our favorites are the ‘Feeling Younger Skin Tint’, that reflects light and makes you look bright and shiny all day, the FIVE GRAM mascara t03533ube, ‘Eyes Right’ that contains wheatgrass for strengthening and smoothing your lashes, and japan wax, for extremely long day-use and no flakes or crumblies.
This stuff doesn’t go anywhere, and best of all it doesn’t hurt your eyes, like other chemical mascaras.

Visit their website Here, but be prepared to browse for days!

Similar to Lush, but much more simple is Nude Bath Products.

Still a growing local company, owner Karen Murdock offers a fresh, clean product line that includes lip balms, facial masks, scrubs, soaks and soaps. Visit their Facebook page Here, and tell them we sent you!

Well fans, that’s it for today….stay tuned for Part Two, where we’ll cover the hottest places to find unique and daring jewelry and accessories.

Don’t forget to share this blog post, like our FB page, and tell your friends and family!
(And call us to reserve a visit soon, of course.)

The Water Doesn’t Know How Old You Are

Good Morning, from White Chocolate Hills Resort!

Today’s blog post is all about swimming, our pool, and the ocean.

Unfortunately, our pool will be closed for three days for cleaning and maintenance…
As you know, the Holy Week was very busy here, and many people took advantage of their weekend by swimming in our huge crystal-clear pool.

We use a natural alternative to chemical chlorine, which is safer and easier on the skin than harsh chemical systems, but it also means our pool is more delicate, and needs to be used properly….

This means of course, Proper Swimwear – No cotton fabrics, T-Shirts or Jean shorts, etc….Proper Sanitary Care – Shower before you enter the pool, Don’t swim if you’re sick or have an infection or open wound, etc….and the most important of all, Proper Pool Etiquette – No spitting, chewing gum, or peeing in our pool!

With a large number of people, it can be harder to keep track of who’s adhering to our pool rules and regulations, and unfortunately, it seems like a few too many people didn’t read the rules.

Our pool is one of the many amazing parts of our resort experience here at White Chocolate Hills, and we want to make sure everyone enjoys themselves…but also respects our other guests who want to enjoy themselves too!

As always, we have 2000 square metres of beachfront that is accessible for our guests to use….so if you don’t have proper swim gear, or if you want to play water games like Marco Polo, Sharks & Minnows, or Chicken Fights…you’re much better off using the beach…not only will it be safer for you, but it will also ensure you’re not disturbing a guest who can’t swim as well as you, or who just wants to relax and float around.

Another concern we have at our Resort is the waterfall wall pictured above….it can become very slippery when wet, and we see many people climbing and sitting on it…in our rules, we tell you not to do this as it can be very easy to fall!

Also, the small pool that the waterfall flows into is NOT a children’s swim area or even a swimming pool at all!
It is actually the cleaning & filtration system for the larger pool above it…it would be very easy to become injured if you were to swim here, because it contains vents for filtering the water…small children are at risk of getting their fingers and toes trapped if they play here.

When you visit us, it is very important for you to read and follow the rules set in place!
We have them for a reason, and we want you to be aware of them so you can enjoy your visit with us safely.

Did you know:
Humans have recorded the art of swimming since prehistoric times.
The earliest record of humans swimming come from cave paintings dated to be about 7,000 years old, and swimming has been mentioned in the Bible, the Illiad & Odyssey, and even the Epic of Gilgamesh.
The first swimming book was penned by a German Language Professor…Nikolaus Wynmann, and it was titled ‘Der Schwimmer oder ein Zweigespräch über die Schwimmkunst‘, which means ‘The Swimmer or A Dialogue on the Art of Swimming.

Everyone can learn to swim, including babies!
Here’s a really amazing video of a 21 month old swimming!!
21 Month Old Swimmer

Not only is it the most fun activity in summer to participate in, but it’s also extremely healthy for your body…it builds and tones muscles, works to strengthen your lungs and other organs, relaxes and de-stresses the body, is used for rehabilitation of victims of accident or trauma, and even improves posture!

Of course, there are always risks when swimming, especially in the ocean, where you can encounter jellyfish, sea urchins and sharp rocks, but if you take care and are aware of the dangers of your area, you can easily swim worry-free anywhere in the world!

Well, that’s all for today!
We hope you enjoyed today’s post, and we encourage you as always to comment, like and share our blog posts with friends and family.

Happy Swimming!

Some People Walk In The Rain – Others Simply Get Wet

Good afternoon, on this lovely, drizzly day!

Wow, yesterday we got a whole lot of rain here at White Chocolate Hills Resort!
Did that stop our guests from having a good time?
Not at all!
Everyone stayed in the pool until it died down a little, then ordered some hot comfort foods from our restaurant to warm up…Everything was…as they say…right as rain here in Zamboanguita.

photo credit: <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/cmaj7/4933333058/">Thomas ♫</a> via <a href="http://photopin.com">photopin</a> <a href="http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-nd/2.0/">cc</a>

Today’s blog is all about what to do in the Philippines when the weather turns wet…in Western countries, usually rainy weather means staying indoors, hiding out, and trying to stay dry by any means possible…often with the rain comes cold, unappealing temperatures, and it’s hard to keep your spirits up.

Here in the Philippines, however…it’s almost always sunny, hot weather, and so a rainy break from the constant heat is usually welcomed with a smile & a sigh of relief.

If you find yourself on vacation, don’t fret! There are plenty things to do that won’t be spoiled by wet weather.
Here are a few of our favorites:

  1. Relax in the Hot Springs Photo Credit: http://s2.hubimg.com/u/2464275_f520.jpg

What could be a more energizing, spa-like feeling than soaking in a mineral-enriched warm pool created by nature itself?

Natural hot springs have been touted as a miracle-worker for a wide range of health issues, such as rheumatism, anxiety, insomnia, psoriasis, and dermatitis. They have also been shown to improve adrenal function, strengthen the immune system, and increase blood flow to the vital organs of the body.

Imagine….rain falling all around you as you allow your tired, aching muscles to fully relax…then cooling down by sitting in the rain.
A perfect spa-treatment for a much cheaper price!
Some famous hot springs you won’t want to miss are Banica Lagoon, the Dauin Hot Springs, and Pulangbato Falls.

2. Surfing, Diving and Snorkeling!

If it’s raining, why not explore the world under the ocean? starfishy
The Philippines is part of the ‘Coral Triangle’.
We are the globe’s epicenter of marine biodiversity.

You can see everything from Pink Soft Coral, Whale Sharks, Anemones, Sea Urchins and 6 species of Turtles, to Dolphins, Blue Whales, dazzlingly colorful coral species and many other sea life.

If you think it’s a party on land, just wait until you see the party under water!
Don’t forget your underwater camera…you won’t want to miss out on preserving some amazing, once in a lifetime sights.

Some diving areas to include on your trip are Antulang Beach, Tambobo Beach, Mina’s Oceanarium, and of course, world-famous Apo Island…home to over 400 dive sites.

3. Tour our famous Churches & Museums belfry

In the Philippines, museums, churches and other cultural sights are never boring, stuffy old places!
The impressive architectural wonders captured within the walls of the Spanish-Era churches are indeed a sight to see.
Most churches have old-style belfries, which were used to warn the citizens of pirate invasions!
A few notable tourist stops include the Rizal Shrine, and the church of St. Isadore The Farmer, as well as the Campanerio, also known as the Dumaguete Belfry…seen on the right.

Also, for a really interesting look at locally made stonework, check out the Bacong Stone-crafting Factory & Souvenir Shop…you can watch local people create amazing works of art, and take something home with you as well.

And of course, if you still don’t feel up for adventuring, they don’t call it ‘bed weather’ for nothing…stay indoors, brew some freshly ground coffee or make some silky hot chocolate, cuddle up with a snuggle buddy to stay warm, and check out some books by great Philippine writers! Nick Joaquin, Francisco Arcellana, and Gilda Cordero-Fernando are all well-known for their short stories…perfect for getting through a quiet, rainy night.

Rainy nights at home are also great for soup…try your hand at cooking some Malunggay soup, Pork Sinigang, or Pancit Canton!

Well, that’s all for today from White Chocolate Hills Resort!
See You Tomorrow!

The Story Of Our Name

Meet the owners of White Chocolate Hills Resort!
Their names are Guenter & Bea, and in this picture, they are visiting the real Chocolate Hills of Bohol. The formations are a unique geographical mystery, and Guenter & Bea fell in love with them immediately.

After some time, an idea began to form…Why not create a beautiful space in Zamboanguita based upon, and featuring the beautiful hills they loved so much?

In 2011, construction began on our mini-Chocolate Hills, as well as the rest of the resort.
Guenter has built this resort with his own two hands, including all of the stonework on the bar & pool… Talk about talent!

The guest houses are also created with the hills in mind, they are dome-shaped, and have ‘chocolate’ roofs to invoke the hills in dry season.

The colors of white and brown used throughout the resort are not only extremely visually appealing, clean, and modern-looking, but are also favorites of Guenter.

Our main construction was completed just this past January, 2014… and a few things remain to be built, including a large, beautiful meeting space, with a full sound system, and projectors for presentations.

So now you know our little story!
Come be a part of our story, and create memorable stories of your own by visiting us soon!
